Evenings are guaranteed pre-k work and story time but my daughter is always hitting, biting and telling me that she hates me. Weekends are 'us' time and playdates. I'm trying so hard to make her feel like I'm there for her but it doesn't seem to be enough and it's breaking our hearts.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5953392920694352732.post-15316609751180276642014-07-08T10:40:56.710-07:002014-07-08T10:40:56.710-07:00My almost 1 year old had a fever and was not himse...My almost 1 year old had a fever and was not himself. He wasn't taking his bottles and had no interest in solids. After 2 doctor visits the pedi decided we should go to the ER. The ER took chest x-rays and said it was pneumonia and they would admit him for overnight observation. Because of insurance we had to be transferred to our hospital which is a children's hospital. Six days later and lots of tests the infectious disease docs were out of theories and decided it could be Kawasaki. Since this was day 8 of the fever they wanted to treat him asap. He was back to his normal self within 6 hours of the start of treatment. They kept him in for 24 hours after then end of treatment for observation. So after 8 days in the hospital (and spending his 1st bday there) it was determined to be Kawasaki. What made it more difficult was because he didn't show all the symptoms. They stated that in a child so young they typically don't show all the symptoms.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5953392920694352732.post-57033195803272596712013-11-12T22:27:45.510-08:002013-11-12T22:27:45.510-08:00I was diagnosed w/migraines at 5 back when a migra...I was diagnosed w/migraines at 5 back when a migraine diagnoses was very uncommon at all. I experienced migraines before that...light and sound sensativity, nausia and also vomitting....but my migraines have always had an unusual symptom...bloody noses....my migraine gets so bad that both nostrils just pouring blood so fast that even gauze packs at the ER were insufficient,...shortly after the bleeding started I would pass out from the pain, my nose would bleed a while longer, then I would feel better. ...the blood was always a good sign...like its my bodies way of relieving the pain. I've never found a doctor who could explain the bloody noses, but my mom used to have to take me to the ER and they would give me morphine (starting at age 7)...once, after blacking out, in addition to the bloody noses, blood started pouring from my ears. My mother and doctors both thought they were going to lose me...no CT scan or MRI or anything else has ever been able to explain the blood loss...my mother worked in the medical field my whole childhoood and the pedi she worked for spent months and months trying to figure it out, as has my adult best friend who is a pharmacist and is baffled by my rx reactions...but answers have never been found. Drugs like immatrex and topamax do NOTHING for my migraines, even if caught early. Pregnancy stopped my migraines, both times. Midrin would knock out my migraine w/in 15-20 mins EVERY TIME W/O FAIL!!! (In my opinion that's a miracle drug, idk why it got pulled from the shelves). I was given darvocet at age 8. ...that made the migraines worse....much much worse, a terrible trigger! Things would get better but the backlash migraine would hit and be terrrribly worse! I have tons of food triggersOnions, Garlic, MSG, Ginger, and artificial sweeteners, like vanillan and vanillin found in cheap chocolate, equal, sweet n low, etc., any alcohol, most anything aged (cheese)....the list goes on and on, and ON!! Furthermore,...the other day my 20 month old was screaming and holding her head and stumbling around like she's dizzy. Tylenol has NEVER worked on my migraines, nsaids are the only OTC to touch them so I immediately gave her childrens motrin, took her to my room, turned the fan on, and laid down with her. She had been very fussy all day but after waking she was MUCH better. This isn't the first time this has happened and she has had bloody noses also...I do, whole heartedly, believe my 20 month old is suffering from migraines. offairheadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15595258526997171545noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5953392920694352732.post-45037541951120277172013-10-15T07:14:19.419-07:002013-10-15T07:14:19.419-07:00Hello,

How do I as a single Mother working 40 hours a week deal with the Retribution of Vanishing parent syndrome? My daughter is great for grandparents and her childminder but turns into a bullying monster when we have any time together. I am at my wits end as any days off from work are spent literally in tears with my daughter as she doles out her punishment for me not being there. However where you lost me a little bit is when you used the car seat verse holding your baby while you drive. I have serious trouble accepting when these examples are used to justify vaccinating verse not. Seeing as they are two incomparable events. By putting your child in a car seat that child has no possible side effect. So it is one sided and a no brainer. Aside from your example I enjoyed the article. I have two unvaccinated kids (7yr and 5yr). I struggled to find a quality pediatrician that would except my decision to hold off on vaccinations. I believe vaccines are great and are needed for some. I believe as a population we have become over vaccinated and over used antibiotics to a point where we are doing harm now to ourselves. So my way to balance my due responsibility to society and my job as a mother to care for my children. I decided to hold off on vaccinations until after their neurological development has peaked (around age 5). After a long time of grappling with my decision, I came to this conclusion based upon my belief in the immune system and my ability as a responsible mother to keep my kids system strong. I also took into account the environment I raise them in. I am fully aware that vaccine injury is unproven but I am also aware that neuroscience still knows so little how about the development of a newborns brain into indolence. I would be naive or ignorant even to accept that injecting foreign substances into my children every two months would not effect that neurological development. Thank you for the wonderful article (although you got pretty aggressive in the middle there, not that I'm the touchy feely type, just a humble mothers opinion.)

Jaime
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5953392920694352732.post-82871894369848844422013-02-02T09:00:18.217-08:002013-02-02T09:00:18.217-08:00Hallelujah! I have a very large 5 1/2 month old (90% weight) who started grabbing food from my plate and shoving in her moth at 4 months. Around the same time, she started waking 6 times per night, in a similar pattern: 11pm, 2am, 4am, 4:45am, 5:30am, 6am - luckily I chalked it up to 4 month regression and didn't try to sleep train her.

I didn't want to start solid foods until she was 6 months. By 5 months I couldn't hold her back anymore, so I started baby led weaning and some purees - I took cues from her. She's been sleeping much better ever since! And now I think I can correlate the wakeful nights with how much opportunity she had to eat solids at dinner time.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5953392920694352732.post-38529684514527239692012-09-18T12:16:50.462-07:002012-09-18T12:16:50.462-07:00Oh, I just LOVED this article!!! I have had an absolute hatred for LLL nurses since the first time I gave birth, when I sat crying excruciating tears of pain as my baby tried to latch on to my torn, bleeding nipples,,,and the nasty nurse kept saying, "It doesn't hurt! If it does you're doing it wrong!" Four children later, and I can positively state that she (and the others I've dealt with) are all big, fat LIARS! I totally agree w/ your comment that "they" are unintentionally harming their cause by spreading misinformation. I didn't even attempt to feed my second child breastmilk because I was still seething from my previous experiences in dealing w/ breastfeeding reality. I think my stubborness has really damaged my body..... but I hear it's common for mothers to put themselves dead last on the priority list, and that is exactly what I have done. Now I am in great pain and can't get all that "more important" work done after all. And your assessment of most doctors is spot on. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5953392920694352732.post-36271341531963191902012-08-16T08:25:12.682-07:002012-08-16T08:25:12.682-07:00They said he didn't have all the symptoms. We ...They said he didn't have all the symptoms. We were told they would have to confer with the cardiologist, pharmacist, and infectious diseases before they could give him the treatment. The reason-a nationwide shortage of the immunoglobulin (IVIG). The good news-they had it at the hospital. The bad news-they had to agree that he needed the liquid gold (as we later referred to it). I told the ER doctor that he had had all of the symptoms except the peeling feet and hands over the last five days and couldn't they be waning on their own? Isn't that what the brochure you gave us said would happen. But if not treated with IVIG he could have irreparable heart damage. I was scared they would deny the treatment and later discover they were wrong when it was too late and the damage was done. I was desperate. I called our pediatrician to ask her to plead our case and explain the symptoms she saw. Several doctors came and looked at him and finally a whole crew of people in white coats came in from infectious diseases. The head doctor said "You know we do not know a lot about Kawasaki's Disease. But what we do know if it is left untreated it could cause heart damage, and I don't think that is a risk we should take. I think we should give him the treatment." I could have hugged and kissed that man! We agreed he needed the treatment and thanked him profusely. They had to defrost(?) and prepare it. It was hooked up in about an hour and when done he was like a new child. He had his appetite back and was sitting up and alert! It was a miracle. I am forever thankful to our wonderful pediatrician Dr. Ogunrinde of Waldorf, MD and her knowledge to be able to correctly diagnose this disease. I am sure it goes undiagnosed a lot. I later understood her statement of do not leave without treatment! She told me that my son was the second time she had seen Kawasaki's in her career. The first was a little girl that she sent to the hospital and they did not treat her and sent home. The girl became sicker and she told the mother to take her back to the hospital and do not leave until she is treated! My son is caucasian (blonde hair blue eyes) with no Asian background. I know that it is more common in Asian boys.
My son had to follow up with a few ultrasounds of his heart and thankfully shows no signs of any damage. And lastly, the day we took him home he developed peeling skin on his hands, the last and only symptom he had not had before. We called the hospital with that info.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5953392920694352732.post-12198729381317360472012-08-16T08:24:16.497-07:002012-08-16T08:24:16.497-07:00My son was diagnosed with Kawasaki's in 2006 a...My son was diagnosed with Kawasaki's in 2006 at 2 years old. We were at the beach on vacation and he started with the fever and I took him to a walk in dr.'s office. He said he had hand foot and mouth. The next day he had a rash all over his abdomen and was vomiting. I took him back and the dr. looked perplexed and ordered an X-ray of his lungs! I called my husband who was packing up the car and we went home and saw his regular pediatrician. She said to finish the antibiotics and keep her updated on the fever. He was irritable and listless and you could not comfort him. It was very scary because he had had infections and fevers before but did not act like he was now. He seemed as though he could hardly walk. I called the doctor each day and she would ask about other symptoms, i.e. pink eyes, peeling skin on hands and feet. On the 5th day of high fevers she told me to bring him in and she said he had the strawberry tongue, pink eyes and he needed bloodwork. He could have Kawasaki's Disease and would need to see a cardiologist! I was trying to understand what she was saying and why would he need a heart doctor if he had a virus! We wound up that evening at Children's Hospital in DC where she sent us and told us they would be expecting our arrival and she had notified infectious diseases. She said do not leave until you get the treatment and I thought that was an odd thing to say. Of course we wouldn't leave without the treatment, that is why we are here. The ER dr. agreed with the diagnosis and ordered the IVIG. We went to a room and waited.....and waited.....and waited. Finally, I told my husband to see where the IVIG was. The shifts had changed and the new ER doctor was questioning the diagnosis!!!!!
